The OTA (The Old Tamensians’ Association) was first formed in 1909 as a means of maintaining the esprit de corps that existed at the school. During the late 1800s there had been an Association of Old Boys but that had petered out. On the 10th March 1908, eighteen old boys met at the Holborn Restaurant, London. They included the then current headmaster Dr Shaw, three former masters, three of the four Kislingburys, four of the five Sims, G.E. Shrimpton and E.L. Stroud. The OTA was formally established at the beginning of 1909. Within a few weeks of its inception the membership stood at 45. Since then, it has continued to thrive, thousands have joined, and today it is a flourishing Association open to everyone who has studied at or been on the staff of LWS.

  1. The prime purpose of the OTA is to ensure that students and staff can stay in touch with LWS and one another. The OTA has an extensive web-site that is updated frequently with news of LWS and members and an e-newsletter is published regularly. LWS staff send out a precis of the newsletter every 2 months.
  2. Members of the OTA: –
  • organise an annual OTA golf tournament.
  • organise Founder’s Day, including the Church Service, AGM, lunch, matches and tea etc. / virtual service 2020.
  • organise Year Group reunions.
  • organise an open reunion at the annual Spring Lunch.
  • provide trustees for the John Hampden War Memorial Fund.
  • help LWS in any way they can, including fund-raising activities.
  • sell OTA scarves, blazer badges, ties, rugby shirts and books.
